“Margin Call” and the Reformation

Just seen “Margin Call”. Very interesting. I liked the low key drama. Very contained. Good acting.   What comes across so well is the gulf between the computer competent and the rest, the rest who make the decisions. CEO Jeremy Irons deals with it marvellously when asking the whistle blowing dealer to explain what he has discovered, “Imagine you are talking to a child”.

In art we know what happens when everything becomes too mannered, complex, extravagant. Artists go back to basics and look for the fundamentals.

Actually, this is true of theology, the greatest example being the Reformation, the reaction to the lost message of the Roman Catholic church.

Surely, society has never been in greater need of a Reformation than now.
